First commission I've ever done. A Black Legion Rhino in 2 days.

I've been rejecting commission work for a long time. Well, I guess that I could accept one since I've finished painting most of the stuff I have. Just as I opened a new box of Chaos Space Marines, the parcel for the commission work arrived. Seems that I've gotten myself busy again.

The focus was to build a new Chaos Rhino out of the box and paint it to be a Black Legion Rhino.

It took me 2 hours to assemble and file down the Rhino. I hope I could assemble it way faster next time.

After spraying it with black and base coating it again with Chaos Black paint to make it solid black.

I've gotten the idea of drawing the chaos star while searching through Cool Mini or Not. So I started the motif with Fortress Grey. I used Chaos Black to make the arrows looked chipped.

Golden Yellow was then applied as the true colour.

After some metallics on the bolts and the appropriate places.

I used Boltgun Metal with a small drybrush to give it a scratched up look. No chaos vehicle should look new at all! I also used Boltgun Metal to paint the tracks.

I used Scorched Brown liberally for the tracks and recesses of the vehicle to further give it a weathered look. I also drybrushed Scorched Brown on the exhaust pipes.

Paint up the gunner, some spikes and the smoke launchers.

Complete. Just less than 2 days and I'm done with the Rhino. I was shocked that I could finish it so fast. Mainly because it's a Black Legion Rhino anyway.

I've been neglecting these guys here, I'll continue working on them after I've completed most of my assignments as I've been very busy with assignments these days.

They'll be my full plasma Chaos Havocs squad. Champion with combi-plasma and 4 other plasma guys.

Product Review - Vallejo Glaze Medium and some test painting on the Eldar!

What a great way to start a post with 2 objectives in mind. To do a little product review on the Vallejo Glaze Medium and to also share how I will be painting my Eldar Ghost Warriors. I can honestly say I have been quite busy lately thanks to the mound of assignments I've been working on, but nevertheless, I'm gonna squeeze about an hour or two dedicated to my painting.

Well, since I want to paint my Ghost Warriors white in colour, I've been thinking a lot lately on how to make them so white and pure and yet able to make the details pop out. So the experiment begins. I sprayed one of my Dire Avengers white, ensuring that I don't miss a spot, not too thick and not too thin. Just nice.

Here's the thing in the spot light today! The Vallejo Glaze Medium, really cheap and good stuff too! The description at the back says "Retards Drying", so I'm guessing that it immediately thins down the paint and turns it into something like a wash, which is true.

You only need a tiny little drop from the bottle. From the picture below, I actually had too much, mainly because we have to add water and paint with the mix. Adding too much of the Vallejo Glaze Medium will seriously prevent your paint from drying...

My first attempt on using it actually let the Skull White + Vallejo Glaze Medium stay wet for nearly 24 hours! Well, technically not wet, but it became pasty...

I added some Bleached Bone.

Mix it a little with some water. And there you have it, Bleached Bone wash...

I spread the wash entirely on the mini making sure I didn't miss a crevice. And as you can see, the wash is actually very translucent. It really turns paints into washes.

After it dries, you can see that the armour is more defined. Though I had to dry brush the entire mini with Skull White again just to make the raised areas pure white.

After some painting experimentation, here's the end product. It does look as if it's radiating with white, but it's just not defined enough.

So on the latest test model, I used Fortress Grey mixed with the Vallejo Glaze Medium as a wash, which is actually better than Bleached Bone.

Well, that's the concept of my Eldar. I think I will darken it by using Codex Grey and mix it with the Vallejo Glaze Medium to glaze the mini. Oh well, that should do the trick in painting my Eldar Ghost Warriors...

Slow progress, but still moving on. Some tips to share too.

I've been running around scouting for locations for a suitable place to open up a gaming store and also been searching high and low for furniture. But we're just gonna go survey our options for now.

Anyway, I've been working on this guy as he is the last WYSIWYG mini for my 1750 tournament legal army. I didn't glue him to the base yet, but I just think he looks so cool!

As some of you might have known this little nifty trick, I suppose I should share this with everyone. Drilling the head makes it easier to paint. Well, of course you don't have to do this to heads only, you can do this to particularly difficult to hold parts of a mini. The head still needs a few layers before it's done and able to be glued in.

Gamers Warehouse + Neodymium Disc Magnets + Cheap Green Stuff = Great hobby time.

Hi guys, I just want to inform you guys that I've received 400 pieces of Neodymium Disc Magnets. I have them in 1mm and 2mm form (200 pieces of each).

Prices are as follows:
10 pieces of 1mm = RM 8
10 pieces of 2mm = RM 10

Please buy them in 10's as it makes it easier for me to calculate and keep track. Also, some of them has already been sold, so if you want your fix, better let me know quick before they run out. Nevertheless, I can now have a consistent supply of these little magnets.

Also, one of the most used supply in the hobby is green stuff. As you can see from the picture, those are Gale Force 9's Green Stuff, 100g for RM 55. It's the cheapest of green stuff you can ever get, I assure you.

And I'm sure that most of you have noticed that on the top left of the blog there is a little banner of Gamers Warehouse, 15% off and Free Shipping! Gamers Warehouse is my current supplier and I'm considered their affiliate.

So for you guys who usually buy from the same online store, give Gamers Warehouse a shot, it's cheap, fast, reliable and the person who runs it is extremely friendly.

Also, do remember to check out what I have in stock as I too maintain a high stock inventory, though not as much as Gamers Warehouse, but I have enough and might meet what you need. I also supply at 15% off rrp, though I can't give free shipping yet at the moment. Not to mention, if you support me, sometime in the future you will get to see a new hobby store meant for table top games and such.

To add up to that, I also help anyone who wants to start with the hobby of Warhammer 40,000 or Warhammer Fantasy. I'll introduce the tools, supplies and guide you to start your army. So if you're new, or have been blog hopping while checking out which army to start, you can always ask me questions on how to start with the hobby.

A little bit of painting tips...

This is just too awesome, so I had to make a second post for today...

Today I received this box from one of my buddies. Ivan. Basically he clips off everything from the sprue and puts them in boxes with compartments.

I really wanna get one of these boxes for my bits and do the same. The reason why he passed it to me is because I could make some Chaos Space Marines for myself, and pay him for whatever I used. I need 10 CSM! Since he's not using them, I'll make use of most of it and pay him so he can buy more of the things he wants... Now you guys know how I get my stuff cheap! I don't have that much cash too ya know...

Moral of this story here, get a box like that, saves you the time of rummaging through your bits box looking for a particular part. Not to mention, easy transportation too!

And... Today, on my painting table, I started off by spraying an Obliterator, a Chaos Terminator and another Chaos Space Marine to paint. So the progress is actually very good right now. I just gave the Chaos Terminator and Chaos Space Marine a wash mix of green and blue.

Here's the painting tip I would like to share. How to let your minis dry fast. What I do is, I put them beside my laptop fan. The heat generated from the laptop will dry the miniatures fast. This is how I make them dry without resorting to waiting too long, or to use a hair dryer (I don't even have one).

The warm air being pushed out from the laptop fan is just perfect, I don't have to worry about my minis flying away or the washes being blown away. So it just makes the paint evaporate faster.

Oh, and those Bloodletters belong to my roommate, he's building his Khorne Daemon army now...

One question for my fellow readers. How big is a Legion of Chaos Space Marines?

We all know that a Chapter would consist of 6 Tactical Squads, 2 Assault Squads, bla bla bla. But I wanna know how big is a Chaos Legion. Please leave a comment to let me know, thanks!!

"Back to my painting spree!"
