Hobby Tutorial - Magnetizing search lights on a Land Raider.

For the past few days I've been held back from doing my hobby stuff thanks to my assignment and some of the business that I'm running. Nevertheless, I found out some very interesting stuff that you can do with magnets and green stuff.

I've assembled most of my second Land Raider today, and as you can see, my table is in a mess.

In fact, my entire room is a mess, not to mention, even my bed wasn't spared from the hobby madness.

I had to use my other table, as my primary hobby table is packed with stuff. Which reminds me that I will need to tidy it up soon!

OK, getting back to topic. I was wondering how could we make a fully WYSIWYG Land Raider and yet not face the difficulty of transporting the said vehicle. The highest point of the Land Raider is definitely the search light in which gives us the dilemma of whether to glue it on or not.

If we actually do glue it, it will risk being snapped of during gaming or transporting, so I thought, why not just magnetize the search light?

I started off by getting some green stuff, drop it into hot water. That actually softens the green stuff a lot! It makes it easier to mix and do whatever you want to it.

Since I've already glued the top part on, I had to do it the hard way. If you want to make it easy, do the green stuff and magnets first before gluing.

I placed the magnet on the opposite side and used another to hold the magnet into position.

With the green stuff I mixed, I used my finger to press it all around the magnet at the opposite side from the nearest hole. Well, like I said, if you already glued it, this is the hard way. Do make sure the magnet is at the centre, you will be able to tell the location of the magnet by watching the one on top.

Cut off the little stand on the search light.

Glue the magnet to the bottom of the search light, and do make sure you're on the right polarity. I did it wrongly. so it naturally repelled and I had to pluck it out to glue it again.

Ta-da! Not only the search light can be kept for transportation, you can also turn it around 360 degrees!

Isn't that awesome?! If only I thought of this earlier I would already use it for most of my vehicles.

Painting Tutorial - Chaos Obliterator in a day...

Hello, today I've decided to paint up an Obliterator. Since I did one within a day before, I decided to do it again but write up a tutorial on it. Well, I haven't been doing any tutorials lately, so I hope this makes up for it.

As you all know, the Obliterator comes in many bits and pieces. After assembly, you will notice lots of gaps around it, which means you will need to use some green stuff to fill up the gaps. Well, today I only want to go through the painting part of it... I assembled it fully and put it on the base with the sand glued already.

I made the painting very simple so anyone can copy it easily and paint one up.

First off, I sprayed with some cheap flat black. I didn't want to spray too much as I'm afraid that the spray might get too thick. So I left some parts showing.

After that, I used watered down Chaos Black to cover up the entire mini.

First up, use Graveyard Earth for the flesh... It's ok to be sloppy at this stage since we're just gonna paint flesh...

Next up, Kommando Khaki on the flesh parts...

After that will be Bleached Bone.

Now, just use Ogryn Flesh and go over the fleshy parts.

This process will take long only because it takes long for it to dry, so I had to speed things up by putting it by the fan...

After that, wash again with Gryphonne Sepia.

Then Baal Red...

Now for the cool part. See the piece of flesh there at the waist? The shadowing is already set, I'm just gonna bring the highlight out.

Get some Bleached Bone on a palette, I only did this because my Bleached Bone is not so watery anymore.

Paint it on the raised edges...

Continue the same process on the entire mini...

Remember to only paint the raised edges...

Once you're done with the flesh parts, it's time to get the metal parts painted. For this Obliterator, I want it to maintain as a Black Legion Obliterator, so I painted the trims with Shining Gold. Be careful not to go over the flesh painted parts.

Once you're done, wash the trim with Badab Black. Just to make it look weathered.

Boltgun Metal the tubes, weapons and pipings...

And wash them with Badab Black again.

While waiting for the wash to dry, I used Blood Red to dot the eye. Snot Green was used to paint the lens and Scorpion Green was used to paint the top of the lens.

I'm gonna make the weapon nozzles look very used, so what I did was to drybrush a little Scorched Brown on the nozzle.

After that, drybrush the nozzles with Chaos Black right at the tip.

Ta-da! Easy, simple, effective, nice. I like it! I did the terrain and painted the rim of the base to suit the rest of my army.

So to break it all down. To paint this Chaos Obliterator, you need:

1. Chaos Black

2. Graveyard Earth

3. Kommando Khaki

4. Bleached Bone

5. Ogryn Flesh

6. Gryphonne Sepia

7. Baal Red

8. Shining Gold

9. Boltgun Metal

10. Badab Black

11. Snot Green

12. Scorpion Green

13. Blood Red

Lots of colours, yes, but it's effective in making this Obliterator table-top quality...

Terrain Project - DIY Crater

Anyways, in this article, he will show us how he makes craters for us to use whenever a vehicle suffers a Vehicle Explodes result on the Vehicle Damage Table...

Wong: Firstly put. there has been a crisis of lack of crater in CM (Comics Mart) of late. Ever since 5th edition made vehicle better a slow but steady increase in Rhinos and Land Raiders alike jam, then the battlefield is like the Federal Highway during peak hours. When the fight starts and they start exploding in fashion, craters soon pop up everywhere; then soon we ran out of craters, and most will witness the miracle of teleporting craters and even deadly hinting craters i.e using big blast templates as one. :D

This is when I decided to try this out.

1. The main point of any DIY stuff is to be cost efficient and to use materials which are in abundance, what better way to use dead or old CDs eh? In addition, it is in the perfect size for a Rhino, Emperor be praised.

2. Using paperclay as the main modeling material for like a pack of RM 7 you can make 3 to 4 craters... If I am dead rich I will consider green stuff one day >:D

Note: It is a good idea to use real stone to create the stony texture

3. Rinse and repeat

4. Spray them brown.

5. Multiple layers of white glue + super glue for final finishing. Burnt soil of RM2 is enough for 50 craters and more... Most expensive part of the venture? Super glue. I would appreciate it if any of you can point me to a cheap source of it. :(

Alvin: I would say, "It's cookie making time!!". Then the onslaught of vehicles will begin... The "cookies" were very well used nowadays since everyone had been happily destroying vehicles all over the place.

It's one very effective way of making terrain since craters are hard to come by, I mean the cheap ones...
