Tyranid Red Terror

I've been really busy these few days, especially with the new club blog and forum, classes, work and all. Nevertheless, I've been painting the Tyranid Red Terror! This guy here took me a few days to assemble, and another few days to paint it up to this stage.

Not only can this model be played as the Fast Attack Monstrous Creature in the Tyranid force, it can be used to represent the Raveners as well, those snake like fast moving and lethal creatures that add a cool factor to the Tyranid army is a must have for collectors!

Note, I'm not done with it yet, but it's well on it's way to completion. I gave the Red Terror a darker look, to represent it burrowing beneath the mines of Devlan.

Here are some pictures of the Red Terror.

"The assembling stage was tough, I was quite frustrated with the tail, but as a collector, it's totally worth it!"

Today's thoughts, WarHammer Fantasy, Mark of Chaos

I've watched this video a long time ago, well, I feel like talking about it a little, as it is one form of inspiration for me to start my first WarHammer Fantasy army, and I've decided to go with Warriors of Chaos. I've also been a long devotee of Nurgle, but a little fan of Khorne, so I will mix this 2 chaos marks in my army.

I just don't understand one thing though, how do like 20+ Chaos Warriors clad in steel armour march through a dense forest without making a single sound? Well, they must be just too cool to be heard.

At least this guy here killed lots of Chaos Warriors with his hammer.

Now this is what I'm talking about! Cool armour plates with chaos markings and also blood and weathered steel. I'll do my best to replicate this in painting, but Nurgle style!
Overall, I feel that this guys should really make a movie instead, I can't express enough how impressed I am with the quality and the realistic graphics of this clip.

"I have to make an army list and go for some tutorial games since I am not well versed with WarHammer Fantasy."

Hi all, today our HELP Miniature Fight Club had a long 2 hour meeting and we finally discussed about building a blog for our club.

This blog will be dedicated to tutorials, our events, our game days and most of all, WarHammer!

HELP Miniature Fight Club

We're on the works of building a forum for it too.

So, do check it out from time to time, as we will post some funny stuff in that blog and will also have some discussion. We will announce the set-up of our forum once we figure out how it's done...

"Woo hoo!! This is one of our efforts to build up this hobby in Malaysia. Have fun visiting our blogs."

Random Painting 4 - Alpha Legion

In this random painting session, there will be a short and simple tutorial on painting eyes and faces. Apart from that, I have came up with a mixture of colours to bring out the bluish/green glow of the Alpha Legion.

I was drawn to paint Alpha Legion from the uniqueness of their colour scheme and of course, from the Horus Heresy book, Legion.

Anyways, here are some shots of the 5 men squad I have painted.

Base coat: Black

Power Armour Colour:
  1. Dry brush with Regal Blue, Enchanted Blue, then Ultramarines Blue, make sure the previous layers can be seen, use less Ultramarines Blue
  2. Dry brush with Snot Green
  3. Wash the whole armour with a 2:2:1 mix of water, Asurmen Blue and Thraka Green, this stage will lock all the colours together
  4. Metal areas are painted with Boltgun Metal
  5. For the bolt pistols and Bolters, I've dry brushed them with Boltgun Metal, to give them a more metallic feel
Now we go for the face and eyes painting part. This guy here shall be our reference.

Since the whole model was base coated with black, Bleached Bone was layered onto the entire flesh area. A very thin layer of Ogryn Flesh was washed over the face.

The eyes were painted with Bleached Bone, and the pupils were painted with Scorched Brown, don't use black and white, as it makes it look unnatural.

"I dunno why I keep using white for the base rim... Might intend to start a pure Alpha Legion army next time..."

Random Painting 3 - Thousand Sons

Hi everyone, I have decided to share a little of my random painting of the Thousand Sons that I have painted in May 2008. I randomly bought these to paint because I was experimenting with the colours and I really didn't like the original colours of them. Being blue and yellow, they just look weird. Anyway, these models have been sitting on my table for so long they actually are dusty, how fluffy of them!

I wanted to bring out the feel of them being ancient, royal, and most of all, dusty!
Here are the pictures:

Here's the breakdown of the paints I used:

Basecoat: White

Colours:
  1. Chaos Black
  2. Bleached Bone
  3. Kommando Khaki
  4. Shining Gold
  5. Dwarf Bronze
  6. Brazen Brass
  7. Burnished Gold
  8. Boltgun Metal
  9. Tin Bitz
  10. Scab Red and Red Gore for the gems and random accessories
Sometimes I just mix the paint on the model itself, meaning, I layer with Kommando Khaki then mix with Bleached Bone at the same time on the model, treating the model as a palate. This will give them a marble feel and look by using the brush to swirl the paint around.

I wanted to make a pure Thousand Sons army, but then I thought that if I do, I actually will have lots of armies... Not to mention, their poses are limited too, as they only have Bolters for weapons...

Hope you guys can make use of a different colour scheme for the Thousand Sons!

"Might still consider building them up into an army... But what do I use for my anti-tank?"

The Doom Angels

Here's my Doom Angels, using the Blood Angels Codex, this is a very fun army to play with and play against. This army consists of 42 men, no vehicles of any sort, 37 of them have Jump Packs, and only 5 of them are on foot.

Well, I haven't finished painting the whole army yet, as you can see, most of them are done and I'm still thinking of ways to make them more dynamic in their pose. Here are some pictures on the army.

Here's the full shot of the army.
Some of the Veterans along with Commander Hades.

This is Commander Hades, he's using the same point system and stats as Commander Dante.
This is Chaplain Charon with the Death Company. Chaplain Charon is using the same point system and stats as Chaplain Lemartes.
A combat squad with a single melta.
This is Squad Deimos, led by Honored Veteran Sergeant Lucifer. Note, they're all beaky heads!
Squad Diablos that is led by Honored Veteran Sergeant Calisto is still in the making.
Here's a closer shot of the characters in the army with names. First up, Commander Hades! It took me weeks to think of how I should paint this guy, and I must say, this is the first time I've painted a face using pure mixing, blending and highlighting.

Chaplain Charon is the first model I've painted in my Doom Angels army.
My favourite Honored Veteran Sergeant, Perseus. I enjoyed modeling and painting this guy.

This here is Taranis.
Lucifer
Kronos
And of course, Calisto.
Phobos here is still under process.

Total Points: 1500

Scoring Units: 3, when broken into Combat Squads 5
Kill Points: 8, when broken into Combat Squads 10

Weakness: Tanks, monstrous creatures, AP 1 or AP 2 blasts.
Strength: Counter charging, once you get charged from them, it's time to say good bye...

Weak against:
  1. Swarmy Tyranids, as this list does not have a flamer and long range fire support. Genestealers can mow down this army.
  2. Mechanized armies, the anti-tank weapons are limited, but can deal with light vehicles and walkers.
  3. Any other things that are pretty much against MEQ's (Marine equivalents).
Strong against:
  1. Necrons, just charge them and they're dead.
  2. Infantry based armies.
  3. Tau, they'll definitely cry shooting at these fly boys...
  4. Daemons? I've only fought the Khorne and Nurgle Combo.
This army is really fast to play, a movement phase barely lasts 5 minutes, they run in most shooting phases but when it comes to the assault phase, they will take some time. The number of attacks they can churn out on an assault phase is amazing, not to mention when Commander Hades is around, they all re-roll to hit.

Drop a comment to let me know what you think.

"I'm just too fixed into the idea of playing an assault oriented army..."

Doom Angels - Honored Veteran Sergeant Calisto

Here's a few shots of my most recently painted model for my Doom Angels army... Note that the decals on his shoulder pads are painted on, meaning, I've used the Blood Angels decals on him, then layered Space Wolves Grey then Skull White on it, with a coat of Matt Varnish on it... I'm still working on my marines, though I find that I have many more minis to paint!

The space to write his name is quite tight!

"I shall take an army photo of my Doom Angels because it's still a new army for me."
